POLITICS : A CAREER AND GOAL
Another election had been scheduled, organised and results are declared. The associated campaigning by various parties made us aware of many issues that had gathered dust over the years and also re-iterated the burning issues while hiding some skeletons inside the party’s / candidate’s cupboard. However the one character that remains unchanged over the years is the protagonist in this entire exercise- the common masses. Yes, even after being aware of the lacunae prevailing in our electoral process, we Indians prefer the cosiness of our drawing room to only criticize the political parties, the candidates/politicians, and the entire system of which we are also a part, choosing to turn a blind eye to the role (rather not played) by us to change our government for the better. As a citizen of the largest and oldest democratic nations in the world, we are discharging the duties and responsibilities expected of us in the present to carry forward our healthy legacy in the future?.
For a young nation, both in terms of gaining independence and
as well as our young populations, it would be difficult to find a handful of
people whose icon is any of our present day politicians or ministers. It is
said that if in an organization, the boss is intelligent and dedicated but his
colleagues intelligence is average, then the organization would be rated as
intelligent and dedicated. A capable captain of a ship can steer his vessel to
safety across many stormy seas. But it is also up to his crew members to alert
him and support him during the journey as he is one of them.
Politicians are ultimately the leaders of our system. We need
to generate awareness in horizontal and vertical direction about the issues
facing the heterogeneous voters of our country. Most strategic role is played
by the majority in a democracy, who are poor citizens here as a substantial
percentage of India’s population still lives below poverty line. And if we see
in the other side, there we find that the non political leaders like religious leaders, panchayat members,
teachers etc. organize gatherings of a particular groups at a place, discuss
and educate the rural folks about the
merits and demerits of the candidates in fray as well as the political parties
in the reckoning.
I believe that if we take certain steps in this regard, we
are bound to reap rich fruits after a few years. Generally if we interact with
the students of classes XII, X or any other higher classes throughout India
about their chosen life’s goal or professional pursuits , the most common
answers we receive mostly from the brilliant students are doctors, engineers,
bureaucrats, scientists, Managerial besides the blue-collared jobs. These are
the gifted students, whose presence happen to be the source of intellectual
activities, unpolished gem of spreading the school name and fame far and wide
in a number of inter school competitions, source of inspiration for others –
juniors as well as class mates. These students will mostly crown with success
in the pursuit of their aspirations.
However, the backbenchers, truant students, and those faced
very difficulty in passing all the subjects in exam and have no say at all in the functioning,
activities of the school but become decision maker in the later part of their life
for the whole area or state. These students get involved in local bodies
organization and associations affiliated to or supported by political parties.
Their years of loyalty are finally rewarded with a ticket for the poll as per
their money and muscle power. If he does not win then it is well and good but
another person of his level will become winner, and if he wins then whom he is
going to rule, those meritorious students in front of whom he never had an
opinion.
Then definitely after having talented person in almost all
the field the net result will be zero because the big boss has no idea of any
policies for the betterment of mankind and his state.
Some months earlier I was watching a T.V. show in one of the private channel s of Assam where the people from reputed educational institutions were the guests and the point of discussion was “Politics and Politicians”. Guests put forwarded that there need to be training for long months /years before getting the election ticket, they had also cited the examples of INFOSYS and some other leading multinational companies where they train first, then they recruit.
But the question here whom we will train? The brilliant and meritorious
students never set their goal to become politician, then who are left? Then
what need to be our steps? I think a career is needed in Politics, just like –
MBBS, BDS, BE, Management, MSc, Agriculture, Fashion design etc. in the same
way a gradation course in politics is very much needed now. I should not be
mistaken with the subject like Political Science. The course in Politics needs
to be practical oriented, where the students will know the policies of their
state and Nation. The students need to go for survey, project; they need to find
out economics and geographical relations to the policies, burning problems of
the state etc. All these things they need to design during the course of study.
The subject Politics need to have master degree and PhD. There need to be
medals and awards for the outstanding performance in all the categories . These
medals and certificates would be the criteria for them to get selection in any
political party. Instead of putting too much stress in IITs we need to create an
environment for the gifted children in Politics. Another thing to ponder is,
how many IITs pass out remains in India after completing their studies.
Now the common people like us will judge our candidate based
on their character, family background and his achievement during the course
study, research and his relationship with the common people and definitely the
personal goal of the candidate. These
information need to be so much transparent that even uneducated, downtrodden
can understand and accordingly a leader would be created.
This definitely will take time but years to come we will working
under an able leader, who would think less about himself and more about the
development of his state and Nation.

I think that minimum educational requirement should be made mandatory to be a lawmaker.
ReplyDeleteYes it is needed for the healthy growth of the nation.
DeleteReally coming generations should shoulder responsibility to make democracy function more smoothly in India
ReplyDeleteYes I think now a days youths are to some extent inclined towards politics and we need to motivate them.
DeleteActually the country is ruled by the truants. The gifted students are not ready to take risk in their life. They are trained by the society (directly or indirectly) that politics is the job of scoundrels. Infact it has become so. As a result students are busy to prepare themselves for different jobs whereas the the cunning group fix themselvesi politics and become the ultimate decision makers.
ReplyDeleteYes if we see from other end we will find nation's development rests in the hands of politicians. An IAS or IPS are the best brains but a politician is the boss.
ReplyDeleteYes. I agree.
ReplyDeleteIf every profession requires minimum qualification than why not for those who run our state or country.
People only know to cast vote but they forget that their duty actually begins after they cast vote. Hardly few people check whether the promises done before election is actually fulfilled.
It's very true sir. There should be a professional course for the candidate who are intending to go in the politics.
ReplyDeleteI personally believe that today's generation are likely to be in power and so many of them are trying to be an IAS/ IPS officers. But for ruling the nation the individual should be effiecient enough to take decisions to attain the national goals. It may take time sir but the educated ones will definitely rule over the uneducated ones.
