India As I dream Of

“Let India arise….Let her arise from the peasants’ cottage, grasping the plough ; out of the hut of fisherman, the cobbler and the sweeper. Let her spring from the grosser’s  shop, from beside the oven of fitter seller. Let her emanate from the factory, from marts, from the markets. Let her emerge from grooves and forest, from hills and mountains”.

Development of any nation or regions depends upon the upliftment of masses mainly the poor, downtrodden labourers etc. Nation’s development cannot be determined with the development of counted few. If the light of development is received by the remotest areas and they are successful successful in contributing their share in India’s share in India’s growth then definitely we can say we are marching towards development. Dream India comes from the people, resource and implementation of different strategies for the development.

When we speak about Dream India then scientific exploration of natural resources also forms an important role. For this I believe education forms the major part. The education has to be such a way that it needs to have a smell of irrigated land, our traditional practices and culture and definitely everything which is related to our past. The education should not take one, away from the roots but it need to be deep rooted. This needs to be a part of our formal education.

Development of patriotic feelings is another step towards the formation of Dream India. Here the word patriotism is misused a lot. It is not the ingredients meant for slogan and protest. It does not only mean to give away life for the sake of mother land. The word patriotism has a wider meaning. To love the country and for that sacrifice of life is a part of patriotism but not everything. To me one who works sincerely in the growth of the nation, no matter it may be a small work, can also be considered a true patriot. The sweeper, cobbler, daily wager are also a great patriot if they render their service with full dedication and honesty. These need to be a part of informal education.

The demon of corruption has engulfed our whole nation and it has entered our veins and arteries. Now more we are concerned about self development and very less energy is applied for nation’s progress. Eventually it so happens that the nation is unable to progress but our own progress becomes ascertained. This has to reversed.

In an open discussion with Swami Vedasaranandaji during his visit to Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya(NEEPCO) Umrangso, a question was raised from the audience regarding how to define and differentiate between good work and bad work. To this Swamiji replied promptly that work which gives us benefit but others suffer from it is a bad work while the work which brings benefit to masses is a good work. He cited the example of corruption. To see India growing and reaching the dream state that moral value need to be inculcated. Our IITians after completing their graduation dream of their service in foreign lands, more often for their self development. We need to have nationalistic approach and commitment towards the mother land. To make India of our dream imparting education with patriotic feelings, inculcating civic and sense, accepting scientific temper along with spirituality are essential.

Let me conclude with Swami Vivekananda’s thought “My faith is in the younger generation, the modern generation, out of them will come my workers. They will work out whole problem, like lion”.
